Dinner & Dance/Awards Evening 2010

What a fantastic time we all had at the Dinner and presentation evening – Good Venue, Good Menu and Good Music.

As Toastmaster, someone said I didn’t need the gavel because my jacket was loud enough! Some people have no taste or style.

Awards were presented to Dave Kavanagh, Gordon Ayshford and Aaron Smith.

The main award of the evening was the well deserved Silver Badge presented to Manny Bernardez for his hard work for the Club over the past years. Manny has been running the website for many years, has been Secretary of the Meeting for three of our main enduros and has been a Committee member and delegate to the Combine.

Most of the Club trophies were on display together with Silver Badges from the past including the very first awarded to H.C. (Charlie) Wake in 1931.

Di Smith did an excellent job proposing a toast to the Witley Club, and Gordon stood in for our new Chairman in proposing a toast to the visitors and ladies. Thanks to Jo and Becky for their efforts in making the event yet another Witley special.

KENT AIR AMBULANCE FUND RAISING TRIAL

Sunday 16th May, 10.30am at China Farm, Plough Lane, Upper Harbledown, near Canterbury, Kent CT2 9AR. 5 Routes from Beginner to Elite Expert – all welcome. Details in next month’s TSM, on Folkestone’s website www.fmcctrials.co.uk or at www.SouthEastTrialsCombine.org.uk

A Champion on the books

Thanks to Neil Bowker for supplying a photo of Thames Valley Trials Combine 2009 Intermediate Champion Terry Tidbury receiving his well-deserved trophy. Also seen here is Terry’s foray into twin-cylinder twin-shock manufacture. If it can even be thought of, it can – and probably will – be built by our master of custom trials machinery!

Another Reminder: National Road Rally

The National Road Rally will take place on the weekend of the 3rd-4th July.

Details and entry forms are at www.nationalroadrally.co.uk There are already over 300 entries, but the Witley presence is looking a bit thin at the moment – so if you are interested in taking part in this long-distance ride around England, do talk to Dave Kavanagh or Laurie Richards, so that we can try to put together a team – or even two... This year’s finish, as well as Special Tests for the Platinum class, is at the MIRA proving ground near Nuneaton. Entries are open until mid-June and cost is £26, or £35 for the Platinum class.

Easter Egg Fun

April 1st was the Easter Egg Hunt and Egg Painting activity night at the Clubroom.

There was a good turnout of members and their families who were supplied with touches and boxes and let loose outside to find Easter eggs. There was also egg painting with eggcups to put the painted eggs in. Some serious egg painting took place with some drying their eggs under the hand dryers in between coats of paint! We had spotted eggs, striped eggs and even a Humpty Dumpty egg! A good time seemed to be had by all.
