The trial was held at Knightons Farm, Dunsfold, on a very warm and bright day.

Terry had set out 8 fairly easy sections which was well suited and well received on such a hot day. With 18 riders entered before the day we were not sure what to expect. However with the Star Group trial cancelled I did anticipate a few extra. In fact we had another 17 on the day, making a worthwhile total of 35 riders.

This did bring up the subject of archaic rules within the TVTC and the Centre. Officially I could not accept entries from outside the TVTC group clubs as it was restricted to the TVTC – in my opinion a stupid rule that needs addressing quickly. There was no way that I was going to turn down entries, so I accepted those from Thames, Horsham and Haslemere clubs. Hopefully Neil Bowker will take my request to the TVTC so that we can run open events in future.

Lack of observers was once again a problem, with only three volunteers, so we opted for a rider pairs ‘observe yourself’ situation. Jim Daffin insisted on observing a section, so he was promptly sent off to section two. Thanks Jim.

Len Hutty and Paul Ray turned up to ride in the pre-67 class; however, Len decided that he could cope with the white route apart from two sections and Paul did the blue route. Fair play to them both, as they eclipsed the other riders on the same routes.

Mind you, Paul was having a bit of a problem with the BSA smoking a bit. Thinks it might be a broken ring. Next time it’s rebuilt Paul, take it easy for the first few miles and let it bed in!

Every rider had a good ride and thanked the organisers for an excellent day out. Also including our catering pair of Pat and John Martin. Michael Powdrell (Normandy) was the Expert winner on 2 marks lost, with Paul Jay second on 3! Intermediate winner was Tom Horsblxx on 4, and best Novice Arthur Frearson also on 4.
