About 45 stalwarts attended the Halloween Bonfire on the 1st November at Frank & Di
Smith’s field. The rain could not keep the spirits down. The cycle trial set out by Aaron Smith was poorly attended but the bonfire and firework display was enjoyed by all. A fantastic blaze kept us standing at least 5 – 6 yards away with the heat causing rising steam from the damp clothes. The fireworks were probably the best ever and went on and on.
A slight mishap when Len & Bev’s daughter tripped and chipped a bone in her elbow. All smiles though four days later with her displaying a bright pink plaster on the arm. Thanks to all involved in putting the display on.

The H.C. (Charlie) Wake Trial held at Kingsfold saw an entry of 86 riders (although only 77 starters for various reasons). The Team of Pat, Jo, John, Barry and C of C Terry were in action by the time Diana and I arrived. Just as well that Barry picked up the gas bottles from me the night before. At least there was a cup of coffee waiting for us. As usual, we were short of observers resulting in stewards and clerk of course having to observe. Thanks to those other brave men and women who stood out all day without a break (and for the first time, no burgers or coffee until the end). One comment sent to me via text was “That was a proper trial, thank you, it was excellent”. Sounds as if Terry got it right once again.

Stores
Between now and Boxing Day, we will need a working party at the stores to have a sort out. The new generator and club clock are stored in secure premises away from the store but our trials marking and other items do need a sort out.

AGM
Plans are being made to find a suitable location for the 2009 AGM as the Aggy club seem to be favouring other activities on Thursday nights now. We are also busy trying to find another more suitable and friendly venue for our weekly club nights. If anyone has knowledge of a suitable hall with bar within the close proximity of Guildford, please let a committee member know. At your AGM, there will be many posts to fill. After many hard working years, Jo is standing down as Secretary and Alison is standing down as Treasurer. If any of you would like a challenge as part of our team, please get in touch with any committee member. You will get all the help you need to carry out these important jobs.
