International Six – Day Enduro

The heavy wheels of the 2008 ISDE pilgrimage convoy have started rolling.

The Witley interest was well represented at the recent ACU meeting held on Saturday 6th February in
Rugby at the ACU Headquarters.

Bernard Jay, the Club Chairman and keen supporter of the ISDE is taking on the role of Team Manager for 2008 and he was supported by past manager Gordon Ayshford, ISDE newcomer Ian George and the more experienced Colin Boniface.

In addition to these 4, Bob Room and his wife Wendy who are regular members of the Team GB ISDE support crew and Dave May-Miller, the ISDE technical and logistical support organising guru (and workhorse), who are also Witley members.

With this backup the Witley riders are sure to have the best foundation on which to build their campaign. The best riders will only succeed in the ISDE with the best support- just as formula 1 races can be decided by the speed of the pitcrew.

A large part of the meeting discussed rules for eligibility and priority of selection for acceptance by the ACU for the limited team places that the organisers have available with the number of riders being limited to 450.

To be eligible riders must be riding in the British Enduro Championship in the Expert or Championship classes or else, in special cases be able to supply proof of competence in recent years and they must be members of an affiliated ACU Club. Despite the reported restrictions in team spaces the ACU will submit to the organisers all British Team entries received (With a £1000 deposit) by 31st March.

If there are insufficient places for all teams entered the selection matrix will kick in. The method of calculating priority, based on past Team presence at the ISDE, past performance and organising British Championship Rounds was agreed and details of the team order of selection priority will be published mid-March.

The organisers should confirm the team entries accepted in June when I am sure the negotiations between the organisers and our representatives Ted Bartlett, Dave Willoughby and Alan King will start…………….
