Sam Connor of West Horsley and riding for his local club The Witley & DMCC become British Solo Trials Champion for 2009 competing in round seven of this extreme and rugged of off road sport at Brimham Rocks, Pateley Bridge Yorkshire last Sunday.
Motorcycle Trials is considered the most skilful of all motorcycle disciplins. Sundays course featured high rocks with plenty of mud thrown in. Twenty Nine years of age Sam started his bike riding at aged 10yrs with the popular Surrey Schoolboys Trials Club and on Sunday was in a class of his own riding the rocks and mud as if they didnt exist.
Sam's nearest rivals Ian Austermule of East Yorks and Gary Mc Donald of Scotland finished on double the points of Sam's winning score, this now gives the 2009 Championship to the very popular Surrey Rider even though one round still remains in Kent. |

The trial was held at Knightons Farm, Dunsfold, on a very warm and bright day.
Terry had set out 8 fairly easy sections which was well suited and well received on such a hot day. With 18 riders entered before the day we were not sure what to expect. However with the Star Group trial cancelled I did anticipate a few extra. In fact we had another 17 on the day, making a worthwhile total of 35 riders.
This did bring up the subject of archaic rules within the TVTC and the Centre. Officially I could not accept entries from outside the TVTC group clubs as it was restricted to the TVTC – in my opinion a stupid rule that needs addressing quickly. There was no way that I was going to turn down entries, so I accepted those from Thames, Horsham and Haslemere clubs. Hopefully Neil Bowker will take my request to the TVTC so that we can run open events in future.
