Some 34 riders turned out for the Gd Brown trial held at knightons, dunsfold, on Sunday June 13th. Knightons was very dry and proved very popular with 4 laps of 8 mainly ‘traditional’ sections with a good ride round.
A close Expert battle took place between Alan Ayres, James Connor and Mike Powdrell; Alan was in impressive form cleaning all but a stray dab on the last attempt of muddy gully of section 6. James just shaded Mike on 9 with most cleans.
On the blue route, Ian Peberdy (200 Whitehawk) was in a class of his own and stayed clean. Stream section 1 proved to be challenging but passable for the Red route, but with notable determined rides from Paul Dale and Jim Connor. Youth riders Aidan Bowker (pictured), Jake Tutt and Ethan Watmore had a close battle in the Youth Novice class. An enjoyable day for all.
Woke up on Sunday; cloudy, keep our fingers crossed for the weather...
I was somewhat apprehensive, as on the Friday I had filled the Beemer up and the **** thing refused to start (battery). Took it home and left it on the Opti-mate until Sunday morning, got ready, pushed it out of the garage and it fired up first go! When I arrived at the club house in Compton the sun was out with a vengeance – “Good” – and as I waited to see if anybody would turn up, the familiar sound of an Africa Twin was heard and Jessica Mittler arrived. She was followed by Graham (Alec Jay’s friend) on a Triumph Trophy; next to sweep in with panache! was Alec on the combination, together with Steve, Dave Kav, Paul Jay – then we heard the UN-familiar sound of a two-stroke: Derek Prior on the Yamaha! We waited a little longer, as Alec said Marc Combstock would be joining us with some friends. Paul said that there were some bikes over the road outside the hall on the main Compton road. Alec went to investigate, just in time to see the bikes pulling away. So we set off all going smoothly, after Dave Kav had pushed me down the car park slope...

Fancy entering an 85 mile trail ride on green lanes and country roads across Hampshire with some trials bits thrown in to make it fun?
Witley Motorcycle Club are running their annual Long Distance Trial on 17th October. It starts in a field near Odiham and follows roads and green lanes in a circular course almost as far as Petersfield. You're given a road-book sheet to show you the way and you navigate using little junction symbols on the sheet (measuring your distance from the last junction with your trip meter). Every so often, we also throw in a few trials sections - all fairly simple stuff like riding over a couple of ruts without putting your feet down - along the way. And there's a timed special stage when you get back to the start to test your skill at speed.
