BXDE 2010 Report Print E-mail

logoWell what an event that was.......full of action, spills and thrills, we arrived at 0630 to help Manny B/Colin B/Simon B and others from Witley to set up the final bits, the whole area of Weavers Down was still completely covered in snow and in places over 12 inches deep and any areas that had been driven on were solid ice, as the competitors arrived so many were getting stuck in and everyone seemed to be helping everyone, its amazing how we bond in such adverse situations.

BXDE winner Dorren CouttsI was luckily enough to view the course which was just a tad over 12 miles and the conditions were hard and challenging with many climbs and bogs that were proper bogs and you had to be so committed to get through due to their depth, the very steep climbs were great if you had clear run but that did not happen often and the carnage on the hills looked like a battlefield from old. The hardest factor was simply the ice where it had compacted and as the event wore on the ice got worse and was the downfall of EVERY rider at some stage.

330 riders were due to sign on with many more in reserve waiting for the opportunity for non arrivals, sadly one of the big guns failed to make the start James Giddings but the A list was of excellent quality with some top MX and Enduro riders in the mix like Scott Elderfield/Dorren Coutts/Jack Turner/Aaron Smith/Richard Ely/Jack Twentyman/Dan Beaven/Zac Blackwell .

The start was the Witley trademark Le Mans style of running to your bike and go go go.........

Reg BowkerWitley & DMCC REG BOWKER TROPHY TRIAL

77 riders turned out for the REG BOWKER TROPHY TRIAL held at Chawton Park Forest, Alton on Sunday December 12th. Chawton Park is a large Forrest complex and conditions were icy with 3 laps of 12 mainly "traditional" sections with a good ride round of around 5 miles. 12 Experts lined up including Alan Ayres looking to repeat last years win and was in good form on the large climbs of section's 6,7& 10. But it was Sam Connor riding with brothers Tim & James that made the sections look easy going CLEAN to take the Expert win. On the blue route Paul Jay, Dave Renham & Nick Heane all had good rides on the slippery exit of section 11. Elliot Tickner found the slippery going to his liking on the Novice route with a cracking ride on section 6, up around a tree and across the camber. At the finish Audrey Bowker presented the REG BOWKER TROPHY to winner Sam Connor.

Help for Heroes Print E-mail

This year the Boxing Day Enduro’s chosen charity is Help for Heroes.

Help for Heroes strives towards 100% effectiveness – so that for every £1 donated, £1 will go directly to helping wounded Servicemen and women.

Running costs are kept as low as possible, and those costs are covered by the sale of Help for Heroes merchandise. Every t-shirt, mug, wristband and calendar sold ensures that the money donated goes to the men and women who need it, not office bills!

Every possible penny is spent on making grants that aim to provide practical, direct support for our wounded. The grants that have been made so far, since the organisation was founded in 2007, total over £77.5 million.
