My Dakar Experiences Print E-mail

Following on from a successful display at Vines BMW, Guildford, our next event was at our Compton Clubroom on Monday 16th February.

This was a talk on “My Dakar Experiences” by Paul Jay.

The talk attracted nearly 40 interested people (including his Mum and Dad) and the experiences covered by Paul were eyeopeners for many. Even those avid followers of the Dakar were surprised at the many near misses and the many “knock offs” during his epic struggle.

I think it clearly showed that those works riders with their luxury motor homes, many mechanics, and helpers were in a completely different event than those private entries. The privateer’s task was twice as hard and in some cases, twice as long time-wise.

As well as many slides and pictures, Paul had his bike, tent and travel box on show for all to see. Our thanks to Paul for a very informative and entertaining evening. and to Jo and Rebecca for supplying the wonderful spread of sandwiches and cakes.

Derek Cranfield’s Big Anniversary Print E-mail

It’s not too often that any sportsman can demonstrate active participation in their chosen sport for 60 years.

But at January’s TVTC trial, held at Deepcut, long-serving Witley member Derek Cranfield celebrated just such an anniversary. His TVTC career having started at the beginning of 1955, he was presented with a commemorative bowl (hand-crafted by President Bill Glover) by way of a memento.

Congratulations Derek!
