Editor's Bit

As we approach the end of our 90th Anniversary year, we can look back on it with satisfaction, though somewhat tempered by a few disappointments.

The high point must be said to have been the Anniversary Celebration in August, with so many past and present members joining in, along with their amazing range of machinery, to make this a really enjoyable and memorable day.

It was certainly unfortunate that the Long Distance Trial was unable to go ahead this year, but the date is in the calendar for next October so we will be looking to set up an organising team from early in the new Year. We are looking for people with experience of these events or at least of byway usage, and/or of dealing with officialdom! If you are interested in being involved – or know anyone else who would be – please speak to any Committee member.

The big news for the spring is the news that the Weston Trophy Trial 2015, on Sunday 22nd March at Butser Limeworks, will not be in quite the usual format. This is because it will be the second round of the British Trials Championship! The first round will be at Hook Woods a day earlier, making this weekend a pleasing prospect for trials fans. These will be the first rounds of the solo competition in the South East Centre for many years and Witley’s involvement is a real feather in the cap. A big Thank You is due to Neil Bowker for his strenuous efforts to secure this prestigious event for the Club.

Witley was not represented in the 2014 ISDE – though to be fair, Argentina is a long way and you really need to watch what your number plate says. However, moves are afoot to ensure that the 2015 event in Slovakia features 2 Witley teams, and there will be a meeting on December 18th (during the Christmas Social) for anyone interested in getting stuck in - see inside.

The G.D.Brown Trial will be reinstated as our June round of the TVTC championship. There will be another July enduro (possibly with a Training Day as a pre-ISDE fundraiser. So all in all there is plenty to look forward to.

Winter is upon us and with it the full sporting calendar from the Reg Bowker Trial up to the Weston. Sportsmen will be fettling their bikes ready for the fray. Road riders will be applying anti-corrosion methods and materials, while restorers will be trawling the autojumbles and the Internet for bits and switching on the fan heater in the shed. Whichever applies to you, here’s hoping you have an enjoyable time!

Many thanks to those of you who have contributed to the NewsFlash this year. Why not think about writing something for the first edition of 2015 – copy date mid February?

The Chairman and Committee wish all Witley members and their families a very Happy Christmas, and a peaceful and prosperous New Year.
