We have quite a busy few weeks ahead of us – with the Reg Bowker Trial having taken place on the 8th December, the Christmas gettogether is on the 19th at the clubroom (with refreshments) and the Day-after-Boxing-Day Enduro on the 27th.

Some great opportunities for members to get involved and help out. I would like to thank all the members and friends that have made it possible to put on all our events this year.

I would also like to wish all our members and their families a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

With September well under way and the ISDE only a week away, the riders have a very busy schedule with most of them having ridden in the Natterjack Enduro on the 14th and 15th and then having to prepare, load and transport their bikes, tyres and all the spares etc to Sardinia before the 24th.

I am really looking forward to supporting the team out there and wish Rob Carey, Arnaud Didey, Neil Bowker, Aaron Smith, Dan Aldred, Rob Johnson and all the support crew every success.

Having seen a proper summer at last, I hope you’ve had the chance to get out and enjoy it on two wheels!

Although there haven’t been any Witley sporting events in the past few months (even the usual June date for the GD Brown trial having been moved to March this year) there have been some social gatherings – particularly the ISDE fundraisers º and this edition contains some reports of members’ exploits both under and outside the umbrella of the Club.

Of course our competition riders (both in trials and enduro) have been very busy and preparations for the ISDE have been occupying a great deal of time and effort. Gordon reports on this elsewhere.

On The Road

Since the last issue we have been knocking up the miles on the F800.

BJ & DDFirst was the Lifeboat Charity Run from Newland’s Corner to Selsey. Unfortunately of all those who said ‘Yes, we will be there’, only ex member Colin Beasley turned up with his new Ural outfit, complete with smiling passenger. The weather was kind to us, but a careless 4x4 driver caused an accident whilst on her mobile and crashed into the back of one of the trikes. No one hurt, but some very angry riders and police. Called ‘The Poker Run’ the idea of this event is to collect two cards at the start and at Bury Hill plus a couple of other points on route with the final card collected at the end. The highest hand won £100. Fine weather and a good turnout resulted in raising over £5000 for the Lifeboats.

Next was the Club trip to the Classic Bike Show at Kempton. I say Club trip because so many Witley members made appearances. Those Diana and I saw or chatted to were Jane & Laurie Richards, Andy Hewett, Grahams Ford & Ingall, Pete Crummett, Rob Carey (with newly purchased crash helmet for the ISDE) and ex member Taddy Tarrant. There was a very nice AJS/Triumph on display but the name! TRIJAY, that’s what my teacher used to say at school.
