Long Distance Trial Print
Sunday, 05 October 2008
Fancy entering an 85 mile trail ride on green lanes and country roads across Hampshire with some trials bits thrown in to make it fun?

Witley Motorcycle Club are running their annual Long Distance Trial on 5th October. It starts in a field near Odiham and follows roads and green lanes in a circular course almost as far as Petersfield. You're given a road-book sheet to show you the way and you navigate using little junction symbols on the sheet (measuring your distance from the last junction with your trip meter). Every so often, we also throw in a few trials sections - all fairly simple stuff like riding over a couple of ruts without putting your feet down - along the way. And there's a timed special stage when you get back to the start to test your skill at speed.

The event is a competition but it isn't a race - just a ride with trially bits every so often. You get marked for clearing the trials sections without putting your feet down (or falling off) and for the time you take through the special test. The rest of the ride is a good day out trail-riding.

The event is run under ACU rules and is open to anyone with a bike licence and a taxed, MOTd and insured dirt bike. Tyres should be road legal and knobbly as the route is on roads and green lanes. It's a daylight event so, if you're riding on a daylight MOT, that's cool. And you can enter and ride with your mates as a team.

The cost is 30 quid to enter plus an extra tenner for a trials licence if you're not an ACU member and we charge 2 quid for one-day membership of Witley MCC if you're not in an ACU affiliated motorcycle club. So, 42 quid max.
